Pity Us

Pity the poor Republican party of 2022.  Dick Cheney drops an ad for his daughter in Wyoming, where the Cheney's have been political giants for decades.  She is going to lose her seat, after having voted for conservative issues 96% of the time.  Her crime:  supporting the Constitution.  Meanwhile in Florida, Baby Trump governor DeSantis has removed a duly elected Prosecutor in Tampa for what he thinks.  And finally, in Texas at a CPAC meeting, European authoritarian Viktor Orban of Hungary was the keynote speaker and received a standing ovation.  Alongside all this, voters in Arizona voted nominees for statewide offices four anti-democracy election deniers, All this in just one week.  The party has lost its collective mind.

The only way this ends well for the country is for the Republican party to burn down its own house and rebuild.  Within that house take special care to salt the ground where Trumpism flourished so that brand of fascism is gone forever.  Also gone in the flames is the Republican brass who condoned politics by obstruction, bullyism and gotcha.  McConnell and McCarthy's subservience to Trump for power has unleashed the factions of racism, idolatry, and hate.  While Republican sycophants lapped at Trumps ass, Fox screeched in the media megaphone to less educated and unsuspecting weak minds how and what to think. They gave up their right to think and drank the Trump orange Kool-Aid.  Only an emollition can the Party find its way back to sanity.  America needs a two-party system.  Think back when we had strong parties with strong leader and the legislation that made this country great instead of a laughingstock.

Can it happen?  Sure.  Will it?  I fear we have a long walk before we will turn this country around and fully support democratic ideals.  With a Supreme CoHang urt winnowing indivual rights, and a Taliban-like adherence to Christian ideals, I think we are entering a very difficult time.  Fascist authoritarianism is on the ascent and democratic norms are falling by the wayside.  Hang on to your Constitution, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
